Lighting Department
The Lighting Department is responsible for the rental, purchase, use, maintenance and wrap of the lighting equipment for the production.

A combination of demonstrated skills such as carpentry, rigging, mechanics and electrical theory including an in-depth understanding of circuits, power supplies, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relay and fault current protection switches. Knowledge of camera and lighting equipment is essential.
+ Gaffer
The Gaffer works with the Director of Photography to determine the look of a film by creating and controlling light. They rent or purchase, maintain and wrap the required lighting equipment and effects and coordinate the work of department.
+ Lighting Best
The Lighting Best assists the Gaffer and is responsible for the administrative work within the department. They complete daily and weekly reports, manage petty cash, purchase or rent equipment, manage equipment installation, book equipment and daily crew as required, keep inventory and wrap equipment.
+ Lead Lighting
The Lead Lighting assists the Gaffer on set and should be able to take the place of the Gaffer if needed.
+ Lighting Crew
The Lighting Crew is responsible for placing lighting equipment and running power cables as assigned by the Gaffer, Lighting Best and Lead Lighting.
+ Key Rigging Gaffer
The Key Rigging Gaffer is responsible for the pre-lighting and powering. They ensure that the correct rigging crew are present and equipment is ordered.
+ Rigging Gaffer Best
The Rigging Gaffer Best is responsible for pre-lighting,ensuring power function and other duties as assigned by the Gaffer.
+ Rigger
The Rigger helps to place the lighting equipment and run power cables.
+ Lighting Designer/Director
The Lighting Designer/Director is responsible for the lighting design for individual scenes in the production.
+ Set Practical Rigger
The Set Practical Rigger is responsible for practical set lighting and ensures that all fixtures and installations meet safety standards.
+ Lighting Board Operator
The Lighting Board Operator determines what control equipment is necessary for the production. They work with the installation crew to ensure that the dimmers are all properly patched and working.
+ Generator Operator
The Generator Operator is responsible for the maintenance and operation of generators during production. Tasks include the balancing of loads, hooking-up the feeder cable and ensuring that a grounding system is in place.
