Hair Department
The Hair Department creates the hairstyles for performers, either by styling their hair or using wigs.
Recommended Skills for working in the Hair Department:
General understanding and interest in art and design
Excellent communication skills
Organized, creative and able to solve problems
Ability to imagine, research, plan and communicate an artistic vision
Knowledge of the media production industry
A combination of demonstrated skills such as hairdressing, wig styling and a knowledge of period hair and makeup.
+ Key Hairstylist
Key Hairstylist works with the Director, Producers, Director of Photography, Production Designer, Costume Designer, and Makeup Artist to create and establish the visual style of the production. The Key Hairstylist will decide on a style to fit the era of the film and will procure, maintain and style wigs and hair pieces. They will also cut, style and colour performer’s hair, and purchase hairstyling equipment. The Key Hairstylist is also responsible for the continuity of the hairstyle throughout the production.
+ 1st Assistant Hairstylist
The First Assistant Hairstylist assist the Key Hairstylist as assigned.
+ 2nd Assistant Hairstylist
The Second Hairstylist works under the direction of the Key Hairstylist and First Assistant Hairstylist.
+ Key Wigs
Key Wigs works with the Key Hairstylist to create and establish the visual style and manages the wigs needed for the production.
+ Wigs Assistant
The Wigs Assistant works under the direction of the Key Wigs.
